A Deadly Disease – Lung Cancer

Lung cancer, like all other types of cancer is caused due to some abnormality in cells, the body’s basic unit of life. The system of the body is so arranged that it constantly maintains a check on the prevailing cells statistics, generation of new cells if needed and division of cells.

If this whole system that is controlling cells in the body, gets disturbed, a mass is eventually formed that is called tumor. The tumor which is malignant is called cancer and when such a cancer is formed within the tissues of the lungs, it is called lung cancer.

Lung cancer is commonly divided into two types and it is necessary to diagnose first that to which the lung cancer belongs. This is because the treatment of each type is different. These types are non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small cell lung cancer (SCLC). Surgery is usually adopted to treat non small cell lung cancer whereas chemotherapy and radiation are preferred for treating small cell lung cancer.

The most common factor that is on the top of the list on causing cancer is long term and frequent exposure to smoking tobacco. Actually, tobacco smoke contains more than 4,000 such chemical substances that have been found to be carcinogenic or cancer-causing. This smoke is so injurious that it can even harm the person who is not smoking but is present under its damaging influence. This is reason why lung cancer is found among those people who do not ever smoke a cigarette. Seo India
